Join Larry Warner, author of the popular guidebook through the Exercises, Journey with Jesus, for this exclusive training class offered to spiritual directors who have worked through the Spiritual Exercises and hold a certificate in spiritual direction from a recognized school of spiritual direction. Our on-line training (via Zoom.com) with Larry will extend over six months (Sept-Mar), with two 2-hour on-line sessions per month. We will walk through a comprehensive training for those who want to learn the fine art of walking others through the Exercises. Coursework will include: the Annotations, the uniqueness of taking someone through the Exercises–introductions to each section and things to look for as people progress through the Weeks. We will explore how to deal with various issues and scenarios that arise as people make their way through the Exercises, key components and pitfalls. Exploration of rules of discernment, rules for making decisions and unpacking the prayers and prayer practices of the Exercises.

Our Curriculum: This will be a 12-session on-line training course (each session meets for 2 hours), designed and lead by Larry Warner, for those desiring to be equipped to lead people through the Spiritual Exercises of St Ignatius of Loyola. It is required that each participant have completed the Spiritual Exercises in some form. And it is encouraged, if possible, to have a person or two you are taking through the Exercises even as you are being trained. You will need to purchase Journey with Jesus by Larry Warner and A Pilgrim’s Testament: The Memoirs of St. Ignatius of Loyola by Parmananda Divarkar and Luis Goncalves da Camara.

The classes will cover the following material:

Sept:        Overview of Exercises, First meeting, God loves you, group and individual times, Q&A

Oct:          Principle and Foundation, Q&A

Nov:         Week 1, Rules of Discernment, Issues,Q&A

Dec:         BREAK

Jan:          Week 2, Rules of Discernment, Issues, Q&A

Feb:         Decision making, Q&A

Mar:        Week 3 and Week 4, Issues, Q&A

There will be a limited number of people admitted to the class. 15 maximum. You can sign up for the entire class for $515. The cost covers all printed materials.

Course Pre-requisite: You need to be a spiritual director with a certificate of training from an accredited school of spiritual direction, plus you must have gone through the Spiritual Exercises, being accompanied by a trained director.

Homework: There is not much homework….maybe an hour for each session. The homework consists of reading two chapters a month in the book on the life of St Ignatius, watch the online video(s) that deal with the subject matter of the week and sometimes I will send out the handouts ahead of time for the participants to take a look at.
