Chapter Eighteen: Life Everlasting.

The Story of Good – Learning to Steward the Good Within.

This is how much God loved the world: He gave His Son, His one and only Son. And this is why: so that no one need be destroyed; by believing in Him, anyone can have a whole and lasting life. God didn’t go to all the trouble of sending His Son merely to point an accusing finger, telling the world how bad it was. He came to help, to put the world right again. ~ John 3: 16-17 (TM)

By this time, daylight was beginning to stretch across the horizon.

Yet, the fire remained bright and alive, warming me deep within.

“Spirit,” I asked, “You say that God’s Good,

When kept to oneself, stagnates,

Producing Sin.”

“I’ve been taught over the years,

That Sin is at the root of my problems.

From what I hear You saying,

Sin is not a root problem,

But a by-product of Good gone Bad?

Is that true?”

“Yes, My child,” the Spirit replied,

“Now, you are starting to understand.”

“Jesus didn’t come to Earth to eradicate Sin,

But to address the deeper problem within.”

“My desire this day is to point out the great need,

For you to focus on the core issue at hand.”

“You, and all who are made in God’s image,

Must learn to steward all the Good you’ve been given.

It’s vitally important for you,

To control the misuse of your Gift of Self-Existence,

Stewarding it into a healthy balance,

With your Gift of God-Dependency.”

“As you listen and learn from Jesus,

The One who shows you the Way,

You will learn to steward your life,”

“Keeping God’s Good flowing.”

“You will learn to do your part in receiving and giving away Good,

Which, in turn, produces Faith, instead of Doubt,

Hope, instead of Despair,

Love, instead of Hate.”

“For wherever God’s Good is flowing freely,

You are free, We are One,”

“Life is everlasting. Amen.”

Ponder on these things:

Over the years, how have you responded to your sin and self-centeredness?

What feelings are evoked as you reflect upon times when you have sinned or fallen short of expectations?

Today, as you view your current situation, is there a sense of Faith or Doubt, Hope or Despair, Love or Hate? And why?

Over a period of about eight weeks (3 sessions per week), we will take you on a poetic journey (26-sessions) we call The Story of Good. We suggest you bookmark our blog series homepage to keep all the writings in one place for your future reference. Take note that each blog session begins with a short scripture reading. My suggestion is that you don’t hurry through, or skip the text, but treat it as a Lectio Divina reading where you slow down and sit a bit with God’s Word, allowing it to penetrate and influence you as you read. Each session also ends with a few thoughts to ponder on. I look forward to hearing some of your insight as we journey together!

Oh, and if you enjoy what you’re reading here, we encourage you to share this page and our website, The Contemplative Activist, with your friends!
